'Star Wars Resistance' first thoughts

“Star Wars Resistance” aired last week on the Disney Channel and let me just say that I really enjoyed the first episode.

After finishing “The Clone Wars” and “Rebels” I have to admit that I was skeptical of the new show. The trailer seemed like it would be too childish and I felt like I wouldn’t enjoy it.
However, after watching the first episode, I felt fulfilled and wanting more out of the television show.
When I first finished “The Clone Wars” I was instantly depressed. I wanted to see how the series concluded but the show was so good that it made me appreciate the prequels more than I already did.

Same went for “Rebels” I was skeptical when I first started to watch the show, however, seeing Ezra and the Ghost crew progress over four seasons and watching the series finale left me crying and thinking about the show for a couple weeks.
With that being said, when “Star Wars Resistance” premiered last week and I saw the opening title, I was excited to see where the show would go and let me just say that from beginning to end the show was an absolute fun time.

The show’s first episode starts out by showcasing a Young New Republic pilot named Kazuda Xiono who is recruited by the Resistance when he escapes from a dogfight with a First Order spy.
Poe Dameron sees what Xiono can do for the Resistance and recruits him on a special mission, to spy on the first order on a aircraft refueling station on the ocean planet Castilon.
Here on Castilon, you see a lot of cool characters and how Xiono is thrust into this world expecting this mission to be an immediate success for him and he is instantly wrong.
Along his journey of trying to fit onto this planet, Xiono runs into some interesting characters such as Jarek Yeager. Yeager I think is one of the most intriguing characters in the series so far because he has worked with Dameron before in the past and wants nothing to do with Xiono’s mission. This leaves me intrigued to see what exactly happened in Yeagers life.

Some other interesting characters are Torra Doza, Hype Fazon and Neeku. They all push and challenge Xiono on this new world and to see Xiono’s original thoughts on this base is interesting.
Something besides the main plot that really stood out to me in the show so far as well is the comedy. Sure, “Star Wars” has always been known for its comedy but here in the show I found it really enjoyable.

Aunt Z managing bids on the race and seeing BB-8 trying to fight Bolza Grool I just found to be very entertaining to watch.
What I also found interesting is that the show decided to talk about the issues facing the galaxy right away. Within the first two minutes of the show you get a feeling for how the First Order is trying to rule the galaxy and what they are trying to accomplish. Same goes for the New Republic.
We see in “The Force Awakens” the First Order pull ahead of the Resistance and how the Resistance is trying to fight back. But here in this show, just like the “Thrawn Trilogy” the New Republic is trying to sustain itself just as the First Order is. I’m excited to see where that arc goes.
What I also enjoy about the show is the Colossus race sequence. I automatically thought of “The Phantom Menace” and the podracing sequence. To see more race sequences take place I found to be amazing. The animation style also adds to how beautiful the sequence really is. It really is unforgettable.
What is also interesting about this show is that it will overlap with “The Force Awakens.” Head writer Brandon Auman explained this in an interview with SYFY Writer.
“Then it’s a very nebulous timeline. You’re kind of not sure,” he continued. “The fact that we’ve got Poe Dameron and BB-8 from the very beginning — kids and any fan of any age automatically just know, ‘This is the new movies, this is where it’s gonna take place,’ so it’s just easier. And it was just fun to kind of roll in and back up a little bit instead of just trying to follow exactly where the movies are at.”
With a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this is what the consensus is so far.
“Star Wars: Resistance's streamlined story sets the stage for exciting adventures -- and seems poised to explore a canvas stocked with immediately relatable characters and plenty of potential.”
I am hopeful for this television show. With as much as I enjoyed the previous television shows I am excited to see how “Star Wars Resistance” plays out and to see where the journey goes.
Here's a link to the extended trailer if you missed it as well.
As always, may the force be with you.
