Why The Old Republic is the best era

The legends, the lore and the mystery surround the Old Republic. Out of all the eras in the “Star Wars” universe, this one is the most interesting.

Why do I think this? Because it adds not only depth to the whole saga but it also fills in the gaps leading up to “The Phantom Menace,” 3,600 years before to be exact.
As “Star Wars” films define conflict in new and interesting ways, The Old Republic is no exception. With the numerous books and video games to explore this unique time period, it can be problematic on where to start.
Here’s how you do so: start with the video games.
“Knights of the Old Republic” and its sequel, “Knights of the Old Republic II” contain the information needed to launch a player into the Old Republic era.

These games make it feel like you are living your own “Star Wars” story. With learning about the history of Darth Revan and Malak, the Mandalorian Wars and to see where your character fits is unlike any gaming experience I’ve ever had. It’s interesting because your actions do affect the outcome of the story.
I won’t give away what happens in the game but trust to know that after you finish both games you will have an understanding of the Old Republic and how it connects to the republic in the prequel trilogy. It’s rewarding to make those connections.
What I would recommend next would be to read some of the Drew Karpyshyn novels based on The Old Republic.

He has written novels such as “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Darth Bane: Path of Destruction,” “Darth Bane: Rule of Two,” “Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil,” “The Old Republic: Revan” and “Star Wars: The Old Republic: Annihilation.”
I have read some of his work and they're spectacular. Especially after playing the video games I read his “Revan” novel and it connected the dots for me right after I finished the game and the choices my character made. It was interesting to say the least.
Not only was it cool to get a new perspective to the series in this way but the conflicts I thought were more compelling in the Old Republic and I have many of my favorite characters that are from the Old Republic.
Below might contain some spoilers.
The Mandalorian Wars was a galactic conflict that simply put, the republic ignored once the Mandalorians were starting to attack and complete sieges in the outer rim republic territories. That’s when Revan and Malak, who were two Jedi knights, turned away from the Jedi Order and fought against the Mandalorians.

It marked the beginning and the end of the war and Malachor V officially ended the war and was one of the battles where the most bloodshed occured. This led to Revan and Malak who were Jedi knights, pursued the remaining Mandalorians into the unknown regions. They then became Sith lords and the galaxy would never be the same again.
I highly recommend that you look into the Old Republic if you haven’t already. It's a tale full of legends and lore and you will not be disappointed.
